Trekking to Everest Base Camp is a dream come true for many adventurers. As a registered and experienced local travel company, Nepal Himalayas Trekking ensures all necessary permits are arranged efficiently so you can enjoy a seamless journey to the base of the world’s highest peak.
To legally enter and trek in the Everest Region, two primary permits are required:
This permit is issued by the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality and is mandatory for all trekkers entering the Khumbu region (Lukla and beyond).
The Khumbu Rural Municipality Permit cannot be obtained in Kathmandu. It is only available locally, either:
At Lukla – Right after landing at the Tenzing-Hillary Airport, there is a permit checkpoint office at the entrance of the village where the permit is issued and checked.
At Monjo – If you're trekking from Jiri or Salleri (via the Classic Everest Base Camp route), the permit can also be obtained at Monjo checkpoint.
The permit office is located just outside the main trail from the airport, a few minutes after exiting the airport gate and before reaching the first guesthouses of Lukla. It’s clearly marked and operated by the local municipal officials.
The Sagarmatha National Park Permit is mandatory to enter the UNESCO World Heritage Site that covers the core trekking area from Monjo to Everest Base Camp.
You can get the permit in two ways:
In Kathmandu, from the Nepal Tourism Board Office, located in Bhrikutimandap.
In Monjo, at the Sagarmatha National Park Entrance Gate, where you pay and receive the permit before entering the protected area.
Nepal Himalayas Trekking usually arranges this permit in advance for your convenience.

Yes, Everest Base Camp is suitable for beginners with good physical fitness. With proper acclimatization, a guided trek, and preparation, even first-time trekkers can successfully reach EBC (5,364 meters).
Yes, you need:
Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)
TIMS Card
However, Upper Mustang requires a restricted-area permit that costs USD 500 per person for 10 days.
Absolutely. The Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the most rewarding treks in the world. The breathtaking views of Mount Everest, Sherpa culture, ancient monasteries, and the thrill of reaching base camp at 5,364 meters make it a bucket-list experience.
The “2 PM rule” is a common guideline on higher Everest routes (above Base Camp), especially for climbers. It suggests turning around by 2 PM to avoid exposure to afternoon weather hazards. It’s not usually enforced during EBC trekking but serves as a good practice for safety on summit days.
The EBC trek involves high altitudes, so altitude sickness is the main risk. However, with gradual acclimatization, proper hydration, and experienced guides (like those from Nepal Himalayas Trekking), the trek is generally safe for healthy individuals.
The trek is not expensive compared to global adventure travel. For under USD 1,500, you can enjoy a 12–14 day guided adventure to Everest Base Camp, including accommodation, meals, flights, permits, guides, and porters.
