Upper Dolpo Trek Permit Cost

Before traveling to Nepal for this trek, you need to know about the Upper Dolpo trek permit cost. These Upper Dolpo trek permits are the main or necessary document for this trek in Nepal. In the Dolpo region, there is two very most demanding trekking trails called (Lower Dolpo Trek & Upper Dolpo trek).

Both trek lies in the restricted area of the Dolpo region. That's why for this we have to make restricted trek permit for this trek before to go in this region. Upper Dolpo trek permit cost little more than other treks of Nepal. Upper Dolpo trek permit costs are,

A. Upper Dolpo Restricted Permit

  • $500 USD for the first 10 days.
  • $50 USD extra per day per person for each day beyond the initial 10 days.

B. Lower Dolpo Restricted Permit (required because Upper Dolpo trek starts from Lower Dolpo)

  • $20 USD for 7 days.
  • $10 USD extra per day per person for each day beyond the initial 7 days in the Lower Dolpo region.

C. Shey Phoksundo National Park Entry Permit

  • $30 USD.

So in total, we have to prepare from $ 550 USD to $ 600 USD for the Upper Dolpo trek permit.

The culture and lifestyle of the Dolpo region is still intact and untouched of modernization. In fact, the Upper Dolpo Trek route passes through many gigantic mountain ranges including Dhaulagiri and Annapurna along with Kanjirowa among many others.

To begin the Upper Dolpo Trek, we start trekking from Jhupal village from where we begin to explore the wonderful culture and people and beautiful forests of pine, oaks, and rhododendrons. We then cross over the huge mountain ranges and over the Numala Pass and we eventually stop at Phoksundo Lake which is located near Ringmo village.

Interestingly, Caravan was the first Nepali movie with English subtitles which has also been nominated for Oscar Awards and this movie is entirely based on Dolpo Region. Hence, Upper Dolpo Trekking is going to be the very special and must-go destination of Nepal.

During Upper Dolpo Trek, you will get to explore many other things besides the untouched and unspoiled biodiversity and intact culture of the Dolpo Region. Nepal Himalayas Trekking cordially welcomes you all for this very unique and remote trekking destination of Nepal.  Dolpo trekking is mostly dry and barren, it is dotted with fast-flowing rivers, roaring waterfalls, deep river gorges, lush meadows, and valleys of tilled fields. Other attractions in this region include remote villages with interesting cultures, such as the Bon Po religion, and, of course, the beautiful icy waters of Phoksundo Lake. Because a portion of Dolpo is protected by the Shey Phoksundo National Park, wildlife such as the snow leopard, rare Himalayan blue sheep, goral, thar, Himalayan black bear, and others are protected.

Dolpo trek is not for the faint of heart, as the trails are difficult, high, steep, shaky, and occasionally non-existent. Long days of walking at high altitude are the norm, with several high passes to cross, but for those with the stamina, possible to do such type of many trek in Nepal. We Nepal Himalayas Trekking have many upcoming departure group for such type of adventure & challenging trekking activity in Nepal.

Upper Dolpo Trek Highlights

  • Upper Dolpo's incredible remoteness.
  •  Beautiful Phoksundo Lake.
  • Shey Gompa and the World Around It
  • Wonderful Wilderness of the Mountains.
  • Follow in the footsteps of ancient trans-Himalayan traders.
  • Without fear of rain, explore the region in dry weather.
  •  This trek around the lake, Crystal Mountain, and the views of Dhaulagiri was incredible.
  • View the Shey Phoksundo National Park's diverse flora and fauna.
  • Get a glimpse into the lives and cultures of Bon Buddhists.

Accommodation & Meals

During the Upper Dolpo Trek, most treks in Upper Dolpo are fully-catered tenting treks given lodging and meals materials are difficult to return back through alongside the trail. (Upper Dolpo is understood to have meals shortages.) Some simple teahouse/motel lodging is to be had in a few villages, however shouldn`t be relied upon.

It is counseled to take as many meals provisions while hiking in Upper Dolpo (and everywhere in Western Nepal, in general). If collaborating in an organised trek (critical in Upper Dolpo), your meals wishes could be taken care of. It continues to be vital to have in mind of the truth that restocking provisions may be tough for courses and porters on this region, and that sources are scarce.
