Overview

Makalu base camp Trekking is the less crowded trekking package which is located at the eastern part of Nepal. In recent days, Makalu Trekking is getting popular among the trekkers. Mount Makalu is the fifth highest mountain in the world. So, Makalu Base Camp Trekking is utterly marvelous and still untouched trekking in Makalu region. In fact, Makalu Base Camp Trek is close to Everest Region. This trek takes you through the beautiful Makalu Barun National Park and Conservation Area which shelters some of the last pristine mountain ecosystems on the earth. Makalu trekking region is famous for its tremendous diversity of plants and animals. 
 
Makalu Base Camp Trek offers Panoramic views of the south face Makalu as well as Everest and Lhotse which are truly regal and fantastic. Makalu region is blessed with diversity of natural vegetation, biology, and culture. Makalu Barun National Park and Conservation Area preserves over 3000 species of flowering plants, over 75 species of mammals, 440 species of birds including endangered Clouded Leopard, Musk Deer, and Red Panda among others.

Itinerary Details

Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu

Today, upon your arrival Tribhuvan International Airport, our representatives from Nepal Himalayas Trekking will welcome you and transfer the hotel.

Day 2 Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley

With the help of our experienced tour guide, you will spend this whole day for Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing. The main places will be: Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Bauddhanath, Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square among others.

Day 3 Kathmandu to Tumlingtar Flight and drive to Chichila

We catch our morning flight to Tumlingtar from Katmandu. The flight takes around 50 minutes to reach Tumlingtar and from there, we drive about 3 hours to reach Chichila. We stay overnight at tented camp. 

Day 4 Trek from Chichila to Num

Today we walk through the picturesque villages and lush mountain forests. And a ridge line with great views on both sides and perched on the end is Num. We stay overnight at tented camp. 

Day 5 Trek from Num to Seduwa

Today, we steeply descend down through the forests and terraced plots of land that takes to Arun Khola. En route the forest on the valley sides offers a bit shade. And while we reach Makalu National Park, we register our permits and set up the camp right at the top of the village. We stay overnight at tented camp. 

 

Day 6 Trek from Seduwa to Tashigaon

Today, we ascend the ridge bounded by the Ipsuwa Khola on the west and Kasuwa Khola to the east. After crossing the hillside through quiet villages and passing by small paddy fields, we reach the village of Tashigaon where we stay overnight at tented camp. 

Day 7 Trek from Tashigaon to Khongma

Today, we trek towards the Khongma, which is the last stop before crossing the Shipton La and dropping down into the upper sections of the remote Barun Valley. Here the green forests are replaced by scrub and rhododendrons that cover the lower reaches of the mountains. 

Day 8 Acclimatization Day at Khongma

This day will be the rest day for proper acclimatization. The acclimatization will allow our bodies to catch up with us before gaining more height. We stay overnight at tented camp

Day 9 Cross Shipton La and Trek to Debotay

Today, we climb towards the summit of Shipton La which takes a few hours to reach. Then, we reach the lake of Kalo Pokhari and pass over the Keke La. We will get to observe the marvelous views of Chamlang as well as Peak 6 and Peak 7. We cross the Keke La Pass and we then descend through the beautiful valley to Debotay. We stay overnight at tented camp. 

Day 10 Trek from Debotay to Yangle Kharka

Today, we pass through the rhododendron forests from Debotay, which leads to the Baruni River and the upper reaches of the valley. Gradually, we arrive at Yangle Kharka which is situated at the base of the valley. We stay overnight at tented camp. 

Day 11 Trek from Debotay to Merek

Today, we trek to Merek and stay overnight at tented camp. Since we are gaining height beyond 4000m, be sure to allow your body the necessary time for acclimatization.

Day 12 Trek from Merek to Shersong

From Merek, now we climb up the valley through yak pastures and boulder fields. WE can witness the south east ridge of mountain Makalu on reaching Shersong. We stay overnight at tented camp. 

Day 13 Trek from Shersong to Makalu Base Camp and return back to Shersong

Ensure that you acclimatize well before walking up to the Makalu Base Camp today. We will enjoy the superb views of Himalayan Mountains throughout the day. We eventually return back to Shersong where we stay overnight at tented camp. 

Day 14 Trek from Shersong to Yangle Kharka

We descend back down the valley and take our last glimpse of Makalu before turning the corner and eventually reaching Yangle Kharka. We stay overnight at tented camp.

Day 15 Trek from Yangle Kharka to Mumbuk

Today, we continue with our descent through the rockfall. We then climb up the rock gully to Mumbuk and again descend to Khongma where we stay overnight at tented camp. 

Day 16 Trek from Mumbuk to Khongma

We initially climb from Mumbuk steeply through a forest of rhododendrons. We then cross the Keke La as well as Shipton La and Ghungru La. Eventually we descend to Khongma La again where we stay overnight at tented camp. 

Day 17 Trek from Khongma to Tashigaon

We continually descend down to Tashigaon today. After cutting across the hillside, we eventually reach the Sherpa town of Tashigaon where we stay overnight at tented camp. 

Day 18 Trek from Tashigaon to Num

Today, we are retracing the same path that we came by. On reaching Num, we setup the camp and spend overnight. 

Day 19 Trek from Num to Chichila to Tumlingtar

We again retrace our steps to Chichila. The final return leg of the trek will see us overnight at Tumlingtar. We transfer to Tumlingtar and stay overnight.

Day 20 Fly back to Kathmandu from Tumlingtar

After completing Makalu Base Camp Trekking, we catch our flight back to Kathmandu today. We stay overnight at tented camp. 

Day 21 Leisure Day at Kathmandu

Today will be the final day in Kathmandu and you can take your time exploring the city or go for the last-minute shopping or simply take rest at the hotel. You stay overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 22 Final Departure

Today, after having breakfast, we will accompany you to the airport for the returning flight. We bid you farewell at the airport hoping to see you again!

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu

Today, upon your arrival Tribhuvan International Airport, our representatives from Nepal Himalayas Trekking will welcome you and transfer the hotel.

Day 2 Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley

Day 3 Kathmandu to Tumlingtar Flight and drive to Chichila

Day 4 Trek from Chichila to Num
