Understanding the exact flight path helps you make the most of every moment in the air.
Your Everest Helicopter Flight begins at approximately 5:30–6:30 AM from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. The early start is intentional — Himalayan mornings offer the clearest skies, the calmest winds, and the most spectacular visibility. Flying northeast over the Kathmandu Valley, you pass above Bhaktapur and Nagarkot before the landscape transforms into dramatic alpine terrain. The first stop is Lukla Airport (2,860 m), famously known as one of the world's most dramatic airstrips, where the helicopter pauses for refuelling.
This is where the true Himalayan spectacle begins. Rising from Lukla, the helicopter traces the Khumbu Valley floor, passing above Namche Bazaar, the heartbeat of the Sherpa world, before ascending towards Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) and the iconic Khumbu Icefall. The pilot circles Kala Patthar (5,545 m), the finest viewpoint for Mount Everest in the entire region, offering unobstructed panoramic views of:
After the aerial tour of Kala Patthar and EBC, your helicopter descends to Syangboche Airstrip, adjacent to the legendary Hotel Everest View — the world's highest-placed hotel. Here, you have 1 to 3 hours to enjoy a mountain breakfast, photograph the panorama of peaks, and absorb the serenity of the Khumbu highlands. The hotel sits at 3,880 metres, offering a direct, uninterrupted view of Everest that very few places on Earth can match.
Note on breakfast: The Hotel Everest View charges approximately USD 31–40 per person for a set breakfast menu (payable separately, cash in NPR preferred).
After breakfast, your helicopter returns via Lukla for refuelling before completing the journey back to Kathmandu. You will be back at your hotel, with memories of a lifetime, well before noon.
Nepal Himalayas Trekking and Prakash Lamsal offer a comprehensive range of Everest Helicopter services to suit every itinerary and requirement:
For trekkers heading to Everest Base Camp who want to skip the flight delays at Lukla's commercial airport, a direct helicopter transfer from Kathmandu to Lukla is the ideal solution. Commercial flights to Lukla frequently experience cancellations and delays due to unpredictable mountain weather. A chartered helicopter eliminates this uncertainty and gets your trek started on time.
After completing your trek to Gorak Shep (5,140 m) and Everest Base Camp, choosing to fly from Gorak Shep back to Lukla by helicopter saves two to three days of descending trail. This 20-minute flight covers the full Khumbu Valley in the air, giving you a final sweeping farewell view of the Sagarmatha National Park's glaciers, ridges, and Sherpa hamlets.
If time is short or you prefer a direct return to the capital, the Gorak Shep to Kathmandu Helicopter Flight takes approximately one hour and covers 151 km. This is also the route used for medical evacuations and emergency rescues from the high Khumbu. It is a spectacular aerial journey across the entire Everest region.
The helicopters used for EBC tours are powerful high-altitude machines (typically Airbus H125 B3e or equivalent), but weight restrictions at extreme altitude are non-negotiable for safety:
The finest season for the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour. Skies are clear, temperatures are moderate, the Rhododendron forests below are ablaze with colour, and visibility of the Himalayan peaks is exceptional. Spring is also the Everest climbing season, so you may spot expeditions on the mountain during your aerial tour.
Post-monsoon clarity returns to the Himalaya with crystal-clear skies and stable weather windows. October and November offer perhaps the sharpest visibility of the year, with brilliant blue skies against pure white snow-capped summits.
Flights are possible in winter. Skies are clear, and mountain views are spectacular, though temperatures at Syangboche can drop significantly. Those who can manage the cold will find fewer crowds and excellent photographic conditions.
Heavy cloud cover, rain, and unstable flying conditions make this period the most challenging. Flights are frequently delayed or cancelled. Nepal Himalayas Trekking offers full refunds for weather cancellations.
Safety is the absolute foundation of every flight arranged by Nepal Himalayas Trekking. Prakash Lamsal works exclusively with CAAN-licensed helicopter operators whose pilots hold thousands of Himalayan flying hours. Here is how we ensure your safety:
The EBC Helicopter Tour is considered one of the safest adventure activities in Nepal when operated by certified professionals. It is the primary means of emergency evacuation for trekkers and climbers in the Khumbu — a testament to the reliability of these aircraft and pilots.
Although the helicopter tour is far shorter in duration than trekking, altitude awareness still matters:
The tour begins in Kathmandu's warmer climate and reaches 3,880 m at Syangboche. Pack smart:
Nepal Himalayas Trekking operates on a transparent, no-hidden-fee booking policy. To confirm your Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour:
Q: Can anyone take the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour? Yes. There is no age limit. The tour is suitable for children, older adults, people with limited mobility, and anyone who cannot trek. The only requirement is that passengers must be in reasonable general health. Those with serious cardiac or respiratory conditions should consult a doctor first.
Q: Does the helicopter land at Everest Base Camp? No. Everest Base Camp sits atop the Khumbu Glacier, which is an unstable, crevassed terrain that does not permit helicopter landings. The helicopter flies over EBC at close range. Additionally, from EBC itself you cannot see many of the surrounding peaks — Kala Patthar is actually the better viewpoint for Everest.
Q: Can the helicopter land at Kala Patthar? Landings at Kala Patthar (5,545 m) are permitted on private charters with advance arrangement. However, they are not included in standard shared tours due to safety concerns from sudden altitude exposure for unacclimatised passengers. Ground time at Kala Patthar is kept to approximately 10–15 minutes maximum.
Q: What happens if the weather is bad on my departure day? Your flight will be rescheduled to the next available clear-weather window. If you have a fixed departure from Nepal and rescheduling is not possible, a full 100% refund is issued for weather cancellations.
Q: How early do I need to wake up? Expect a hotel pick-up between 5:30 and 6:30 AM. Morning flights benefit from the clearest atmospheric conditions and calmest winds in the Himalayan region.
Q: Is there an oxygen cylinder on the helicopter? Yes. Every helicopter used for the EBC tour carries an oxygen cylinder and first aid kit as standard equipment for emergency use.
Q: How many people can fly per helicopter? A maximum of 5 passengers (plus pilot) per helicopter. All seats are window seats — no middle seat, no compromised views.
Q: What is the difference between a shared and private tour? A shared tour places you with up to 4 other travellers from around the world, making the cost per person significantly lower. A private charter means the helicopter is exclusively for your group, with more flexibility on timings and routing.
Q: Can I fly to EBC and return to Kathmandu by helicopter if I'm already trekking? Absolutely. Gorak Shep to Kathmandu by helicopter and Gorak Shep to Lukla by helicopter are both services we arrange regularly. Contact Prakash Lamsal with your trekking dates and we will coordinate the charter.
Q: Is travel insurance required? We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that includes high-altitude helicopter evacuation coverage. Flight insurance is included in your package, but personal travel insurance for medical emergencies is the passenger's responsibility.

Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek (20+ Days) A profound journey into one of Nepal's most remote and culturally intact Buddhist valleys, combining the Manaslu Circuit with the hidden Tsum Valley — a sacred Himalayan pilgrimage route rarely visited by outsiders.
Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek (18–21 Days) A demanding and remote journey to the base of the world's third-highest peak (8,586 m) in far eastern Nepal. Pristine wilderness, rhododendron forests, and complete solitude define this exceptional adventure.

Upper Mustang Trek (14–16 Days) The forbidden kingdom of Lo — a walled Tibetan plateau world north of the Annapurna Range, reachable only with a special restricted-area permit. Ancient monasteries, painted cave cities, and ochre desert landscapes are unlike anywhere else in Nepal.

Beyond the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour, Nepal Himalayas Trekking offers complete guided trekking and adventure experiences throughout Nepal. Prakash Lamsal has guided hundreds of trekkers across every major Himalayan trail since 2012. Below is our complete portfolio:
Everest Base Camp Trek (Standard — 14 Days) The classic journey to the foot of the world's highest mountain. From the dramatic Lukla airstrip, the trail ascends through Sherpa villages, Buddhist monasteries, and glacial moraines to Gorak Shep and Everest Base Camp at 5,364 m. The optional ascent to Kala Patthar (5,545 m) provides the finest sunrise view of Everest available to non-climbers. A transformative journey through the Sagarmatha National Park.
Everest Base Camp Trek Return by Helicopter Trek up through the Khumbu on foot and fly home in style. This popular hybrid itinerary combines the authenticity of the EBC trek with the luxury of a helicopter return from Gorak Shep or Namche Bazaar, saving 4–5 days of descent. Ideal for those who want the full trekking experience but have limited time.
Everest Three Passes Trek (21 Days) One of the most demanding and rewarding treks in the Himalaya, crossing the Kongma La (5,535 m), Cho La (5,420 m), and Renjo La (5,360 m) passes. Includes Everest Base Camp, Kala Patthar, and the spectacular Gokyo Lakes.
Gokyo Lake Trek (14 Days) An alternative Everest region classic, culminating at the turquoise Gokyo Lakes at over 4,700 m with ascent to Gokyo Ri (5,357 m) for spectacular Everest views without the EBC crowds.
Short Everest Base Camp Trek (3 Days) A luxury helicopter-assisted fast trek combining a helicopter flight to the EBC region with 2–3 days of walking through the most scenic sections of the Khumbu Valley.
Annapurna Base Camp Trek (12 Days) Ascending through rhododendron forests, rice terraces, and Gurung villages to the Annapurna Sanctuary at 4,130 m, surrounded by a 360-degree amphitheatre of 7,000 m and 8,000 m peaks including Annapurna I (8,091 m) and Machhapuchhre (6,993 m).
Annapurna Circuit Trek (18 Days) A legendary circumnavigation of the Annapurna Massif, crossing the Thorung La Pass (5,416 m) and passing through the rain-shadow landscapes of Mustang. One of the world's great long-distance treks.
Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek (7 Days) The most accessible viewpoint trek in Nepal, offering spectacular sunrise panoramas from Poon Hill (3,210 m) overlooking Dhaulagiri (8,167 m) and the Annapurna Range. Ideal for first-time trekkers.
Mardi Himal Trek (8 Days) A less-trodden gem in the Annapurna region, ascending to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500 m) through pristine forests and meadows with dramatic views of Machhapuchhre's perfect pyramid.
Annapurna Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return Complete the classic ABC trek and return to Pokhara or Kathmandu by helicopter for a dramatic and time-saving finale.
Langtang Valley Trek (10 Days) Nepal's closest major trekking destination to Kathmandu, the Langtang Valley offers stunning Himalayan scenery, Tamang and Tibetan cultural immersion, and the distinctive glacial terrain of the Langtang Lirung massif (7,227 m). A deeply rewarding trek with fewer crowds than Everest or Annapurna.
Manaslu Circuit Trek (14–16 Days) Circumnavigating the world's eighth-highest peak, Manaslu (8,163 m), this restricted-area trek offers raw, authentic Himalayan culture and landscapes. Crossing the Larkya La Pass (5,160 m) is among the most dramatic high-altitude crossings in Nepal.
Lower Dolpo Trek (18–21 Days) Into the rain shadow of the Dhaulagiri massif, this restricted-area trek traverses ancient Bon-Buddhist landscapes of extraordinary geological and cultural richness. One of Nepal's great wilderness experiences.
Chisapani Nagarkot Hike (2 Days) A popular overnight Himalayan viewpoint hike from Kathmandu, combining the forested Shivapuri ridge with the panoramic sunrise vistas of Nagarkot — an excellent warm-up or introduction to Nepal's trekking landscape.
Dhampus Sarangkot Hike (2–3 Days) A gentle hill hike above Pokhara combining rhododendron forests, Gurung village culture, and spectacular Annapurna and Dhaulagiri sunrise views. Ideal for those with limited time in the Pokhara region.

Definitely, one of the best experiences of my life was the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour back in May month of 2022. My holiday in Nepal was almost at an end but I had still not visited the crown jewel of trekking in Nepal, the Everest Base Camp. Upon consulting with my friends who had been to the Khumbu region before, they recommended exploring Everest via a helicopter tour.
I must admit I was a bit skeptical at first regarding whether I would be have the same enjoyment and experience from a chopper as I did from trekking. But this doubt was soon cleared as this trip turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life. Nepal Himalayas Trekking owner (Mr. Prakash) responded super quick and arranged a flight for me. I was able to enjoy the pristine beauty of the Everest region without a worry in the world as Nepal Himalayas Trekking agency took care of everything impeccably. I would certainly recommend them for anyone thinking of touring via Heli in Nepal.
See you soon

Our trip with Nepal Himalayas Trekking on the Everest Base Camp helicopter tour was beyond all expectations amazing. We have visited more than 20 Countries for different kinds of activities. But in Nepal, this 1 Day Adventure journey was a life-changing experience that will always be woven into the fabric of our hearts and mind. From the Kala Patthar point of the helicopter, We saw an amazing & incredible view of mountains with royal peaks that seemed to reach for the sky. The sheer beauty of nature's masterpiece left an indelible mark on our minds, and each moment unfolded before my amazed eyes like a vivid picture.
Not only that. As we flew through the air, we were excited, but when we landed at the luxurious Hotel Everest View at Syangboche, we were calm again. There, in the middle of the clouds, we ate a delicious breakfast with a Fabulous view of the Top Of the world. It was a feast for the senses that fed both the body and the spirit. The Himalayan giant stood guard in silence, inspiring awe and respect.
We would like to say great thanks to Nepal Himalayas Trekking from the bottom of our hearts for putting together this amazing trip, where dreams came true and the majesty of Everest became a treasured partner on an unforgettable journey.
You are the perfect tour operator & trip organizer in Nepal. We have lots of love. Missing lots. Probably all our German friends will copy our trip.

Our Everest Base Camp Charter flight was perfectly worth it because we choose Nepal Himalayas Trekking.
There are lots of travel agencies in the street of Thamel Kathmandu, Nepal but I am glad that we choose the Nepal Himalayas Trekking Company.
Mr. Prakash, the owner of Nepal Himalayas Trekking, was very responsive to all of our queries during the planning stage of our trip. He provided a customized itinerary suitable for our group and accommodated changes along the way. This tour company/tour operator only required a 30% downpayment for the tour sent via wire transfer, which was not bad. They did not immediately collect the remaining balance on the first day; hence, they asked for it when all of the activities for the tour were done.
Staffs are very nice and accommodating. They guided us all throughout our stay in Nepal. We enjoyed the Everest Base Camp Helicopter tour. We were assigned to a very experienced and calm pilot from Manang Air. Our Guide or owner Mr. Prakash was right when we stayed for breakfast at Kongde Yeti Mountain Home as it provided a spectacular view of the Himalayan mountains. Mr. Prakash surely knew the best spots in some of Kathmandu's iconic places. He was patient and always smiled.
The complimentary Nepalese dinner with the cultural show during our last night in Kathmandu was perfect to end our unforgettable trip to Nepal.
We would definitely consider with Nepal Himalayas Trekking in our future trips to Everest Base Camp Trek & Manaslu Circuit Trek.

After my Gratued, I & my boyfriend travel to Nepal. On the Street in Thamel, we found the Nepal Himalayas Trekking Company, which is operating many kinds of activities including the Everest Base Camp Helicopter tour. Because of a short vacation, we have decided to go on this Everest Base Camp Helicopter Charter tour with this company. They offered affordable cost. We are really happy to get such an incredible 1-day adventure tour in Nepal.
Our trip was fantastic because of the good organizer, suitable Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour cost including fabulous weather. This time we did the Majestic Everest Helicopter tour. For sure, next time we will try to go Everest Base Camp Trek by walking from Lukla Airport.
We are a group from Germany, and in September 2023, we had the privilege of embarking on the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour with Nepal Himalayas Trekking Company. This experience was nothing short of extraordinary!
From the very beginning, the service provided by the company was flawless. Mr. Prakash, the owner, ensured that every aspect of the tour was well-organized and seamless. His professionalism and personal attention made us feel confident and cared for throughout the entire journey. He went above and beyond to accommodate our needs and ensure we had a memorable experience.
The helicopter ride itself was breathtaking. Flying over the majestic peaks of the Himalayas and landing at Everest Base Camp was an experience we will never forget. The views were absolutely stunning – from the snow-capped peaks to the serene valleys below. The pilot was highly skilled, and we felt completely safe the entire time.
One of the highlights was the stop at Kalapathar, where we got an up-close view of Mount Everest. Standing at such a high altitude and witnessing the grandeur of the world’s tallest mountain was truly humbling. The helicopter tour allowed us to experience the beauty of the Himalayas in a way that trekking alone cannot offer.
Nepal Himalayas Trekking Company, under the leadership of Mr. Prakash, provided impeccable service, from start to finish. We are grateful for their hospitality and for making this dream trip a reality. For anyone considering an Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour, we cannot recommend this company highly enough!
Thank you, Mr. Prakash, and your team, for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure!
