Avoid trekking during the winter (January to February) due to harsh weather conditions, and the monsoon season (June to August) due to heavy rainfall. That's why March to May and September to November to December are the best time to travel to Nepal.

Fitness Level

Although the EBC trek does not require technical climbing skills, it demands good physical fitness and endurance. Expect long trekking days, high altitudes, and steep ascents. Permits

Routes

The standard Everest Base Camp trek follows this itinerary:

Lukla to Phakding (2,860m to 2,610m)

A short flight from Kathmandu takes you to Lukla, followed by a 3-4 hour trek through forests and suspension bridges to Phakding.

Phakding to Namche Bazaar (2,610m to 3,440m)

This challenging 6-7 hour trek involves crossing the Dudh Koshi River and ascending steep trails to Namche Bazaar, the largest Sherpa town.

Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,440m to 3,860m)

A 5-6 hour trek through pine forests leads to Tengboche, home to the famous Tengboche Monastery with panoramic Himalayan views.

Tengboche to Dingboche (3,860m to 4,410m)

A 5-6 hour trek passes through Pangboche and follows the Imja River towards Dingboche, a key acclimatization stop.

Lobuche to Gorak Shep to Everest Base Camp to Gorak Shep (4,910m to 5,364m to 5,164m)

Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar to Pheriche (5,164m to 5,545m to 4,240m)

Pheriche to Namche (4,240m to 3,440m)

A 6-7 hour trek retracing the route back through Tengboche and forests to Namche.

Namche to Lukla (3,440m to 2,860m)

Lukla to Kathmandu by Flight

Fly back to Kathmandu, weather permitting. Delays are common, so having a buffer day in Kathmandu is advisable.

Altitude
