Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour - 4/5 Hours

Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour

How much does it cost to take a helicopter tour to Mount Everest Base Camp?

A helicopter tour to Mount Everest Base Camp costs USD 1,290 Kala Patthar overfly & to 1,890 Kala Patthar Landing per person on a shared flight, or USD 5,490 to 8,590+ for a private helicopter. The USD 1,290 seat flies over Base Camp; the USD 1,890 option lands on Kala Patthar with 2 guests on board.

How much does a heli ride to Everest Base Camp cost?

A heli ride to Everest Base Camp starts at USD 1,290 per person with Nepal Himalayas Trekking, plus NPR 7,500 (about USD 50) in park and airport fees paid on the day. Solo travellers pay USD 1,390.

Can I visit Everest Base Camp via helicopter?

Yes, you can visit Everest Base Camp by helicopter on a 4 to 5 hour round trip from Kathmandu, with no trekking or fitness needed. You fly over Base Camp and land on Kala Patthar (5,545 m) above it, where the view of Everest is better.

Can a helicopter fly to Everest Base Camp?

Yes, helicopters fly to Everest Base Camp every morning in good weather, but tour flights do not land on the camp itself because it sits on moving glacier ice. Rescue and expedition-supply flights can land there; sightseeing flights land on nearby Kala Patthar instead.

What is the Everest Base Camp helicopter tour price?

The 2026 to 2028 price is USD 1,290 pp (shared overflight), USD 1,890 pp (Kala Patthar landing, 2 guests) and USD 5,490 to 8,590+ per helicopter (private, permits included). Shared and landing guests add NPR 7,500 in government fees.

What will the Everest Base Camp helicopter tour cost in 2026?

In 2026 the tour costs from USD 1,290 per person, and the same prices are held for 2027 and 2028 bookings. Leading operators charge USD 1,399 to 1,599 for a comparable shared seat this year.

Is there an Everest Base Camp helicopter tour with landing?

Yes: our USD 1,890 Kala Patthar landing tour and every private charter include a landing at about 5,545 m. Landings are permitted only at certain times of year, so we confirm permission for your date before you pay; if it is not allowed, you fly over Kala Patthar instead.

What is the Everest helicopter tour price for Nepali citizens?

Nepali citizens pay about NPR 1,94,000 per person for the shared flight, NPR 2,84,000 per person for the Kala Patthar landing tour, and from NPR 8,24,000 for a private helicopter, all payable in rupees. Park and municipality fees are lower for Nepali and SAARC nationals; bring your citizenship card on the day.

Is there an Everest helicopter tour with Kala Patthar landing?

Yes: Kala Patthar (5,545 m) is the landing point on our landing tour and private charters, about 10 minutes on the ground facing Everest's summit. It is the best viewpoint in the Khumbu, because Nuptse hides Everest's summit from Base Camp itself.

What do reviews say about the Everest Base Camp helicopter tour?

Our Everest Base Camp helicopter tour is rated 5.0 from 37 verified reviews, with 229 verified reviews across all our trips. Guests most often mention the Kala Patthar landing, breakfast at Hotel Everest View and quick replies from managing director Prakash Lamsal. Read more on TripAdvisor.

Which is the best Everest Base Camp helicopter tour?

The best tour for most couples is a Kala Patthar landing with only 2 guests on board, because the whole group lands together without a shuttle split. Our USD 1,890 landing tour does this; families and photographers get more freedom from a private charter.

What is the Kathmandu to Everest Base Camp helicopter price?

Kathmandu to Everest Base Camp and back by helicopter costs from USD 1,290 per person shared or from USD 5,490 for a private helicopter. One-way pickups for trekkers are a different product: see our Gorakshep to Lukla Helicopter and EBC Trek with Helicopter Return.

Overview

The Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour is a 4 to 5 hour round trip from Kathmandu that flies you over Everest Base Camp and lands you on Kala Patthar (5,545 m), face to face with Mount Everest, then back in Kathmandu before lunch. Prices with Nepal Himalayas Trekking start at USD 1,290 per person on a shared flight, USD 1,890 per person for a Kala Patthar landing, and USD 5,490 for a private charter with permits included.

It is the only way to stand within sight of Everest's summit in a single morning. The Everest Base Camp Trek trek to the same spot takes 12 to 14 days and good fitness; the helicopter needs neither. That makes it the right choice for travellers short on time, families with children, older guests, and trekkers who want to see the Khumbu without the walk.

One fact most operators blur: no passenger helicopter lands at Everest Base Camp itself, because the camp sits on moving glacier ice. Every "Base Camp landing" tour lands on Kala Patthar instead, which is the better viewpoint anyway. We fly daily, all year, weather permitting, and our managing director answers bookings personally on WhatsApp (+977 9841044334).

Duration

The tour takes about 4 to 5 hours from hotel pickup to drop-off, of which roughly 2.5 to 3 hours are in the air. The rest is ground time for refuelling, the Kala Patthar landing and breakfast.

Routes

Every option follows the same valley, Kathmandu to Lukla and up the Dudh Koshi to the Khumbu Glacier; what changes is where you land.

Shared group flight (overfly): Kathmandu (1,400 m) → Lukla (2,860 m, refuel) → Pheriche (4,371 m, the group splits into 2 to 3 seat shuttles) → circuit over Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) and Kala Patthar → Syangboche (3,880 m, Hotel Everest View stop, breakfast optional) → Lukla → Kathmandu.

Kala Patthar landing tour (2 guests): Kathmandu → Lukla (refuel) → over Namche Bazaar, Tengboche and Gorak Shep → land at Kala Patthar (5,545 m) → land at Syangboche (3,880 m), Hotel Everest View, breakfast optional → Lukla → Kathmandu.

Private charter (2 to 6 guests): the landing route above, flown in two rotations from Pheriche for groups over 2 to 3 people. Extra stops such as Tengboche Monastery or Namche Bazaar can be added on request within your flying time.

What you see on the way in: Langtang, Gauri Shankar and the Rolwaling peaks out of the left windows, then Thamserku and Kusum Kanguru as you enter the Khumbu, Ama Dablam above Tengboche, and finally Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Pumori around the Khumbu Icefall. See the route map on this page.

Highlights

  • Step out on Kala Patthar (5,545 m), the one spot in the Khumbu where Everest's full summit pyramid faces you, unblocked by Nuptse.
  • Fly above Everest Base Camp, the Khumbu Icefall and the Khumbu Glacier, the route every Everest summiteer walks.
  • See five of the world's great peaks in one sweep: Everest (8,849 m), Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori and Ama Dablam.
  • Land at Lukla's Tenzing-Hillary Airport, the famous sloping mountain airstrip.
  • Stop at Hotel Everest View (3,880 m), with Everest and Ama Dablam straight ahead; add breakfast on the terrace if you like.
  • Look down on Namche Bazaar and Tengboche Monastery, the Sherpa heartland.
  • Be back in Kathmandu before lunch, with no trekking fitness or acclimatisation days needed.

Highest landing elevation

The highest landing is the Kala Patthar ridge at about 5,545 m (18,192 ft); the helicopter does not land at Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) or on Kala Patthar's summit (5,644.5 m).

Start and finish

You climb about 4,100 m in roughly 90 minutes, so ground time at Kala Patthar is limited to around 10 minutes. Kala Patthar landings are permitted only at certain times of year; we confirm permission for your date before you pay.

Capacity and weight limit

A tour helicopter carries up to 5 passengers from Kathmandu to Lukla, but only 2 to 3 above about 4,500 m, because thin air cuts how much weight it can lift. That is why we limit the Kala Patthar landing tour to 2 guests: you land together, with no waiting at Pheriche.

  • Helicopter type: Airbus H125 / AS350 B3e single-engine helicopters, the standard for high Himalayan flying.
  • Per-person guide: up to 100 kg per passenger, clothing and daypack included, flies at the standard fare. Above 100 kg, we may adjust seating or charge for an extra shuttle; tell us at booking.
  • Baggage: one small daypack per person; leave suitcases at your hotel.
  • What we need at booking: each passenger's body weight, so the pilot can plan fuel and the order of shuttle flights.

On private charters for 4 to 6 people, we fly the group to Kala Patthar in two rotations from Pheriche, and everyone gets the same ground time.

For Nepali citizens: NPR fares are converted at about NPR 150 per US dollar and fixed when you book. Park and municipality fees are lower for Nepali and SAARC nationals; bring your citizenship card on the day.

What sets the private price: the number of passengers, their combined weight (heavier groups need an extra shuttle from Pheriche), the extra stops you add and the total flying time.

What the government fees cover: the Sagarmatha National Park entry permit, the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality fee and domestic airport tax. Bring the rupees in cash with your passport.

Not included on any option: Nepal visa, international flights, your Kathmandu hotel, travel insurance covering helicopter flights to 5,600 m, extra flying time or landings beyond your option, and tips.

Best time

October and November give the clearest skies and most reliable flights; March to May and December are also very good. We fly every month, but always in the early morning, because valley winds and cloud build from about 10 am.

What to expect

Our advice

Autumn

September to November

Sharpest views, stable weather, busiest slots

Book 2 to 4 weeks ahead

Winter

December to February

Crystal-clear, very cold (often below −15 °C at Kala Patthar), quiet

Bring a down jacket and gloves

Spring

March to May

Good mornings, rhododendrons below, Everest expedition season

Fly on the first departure

Monsoon

June to August

Frequent cloud and delays, green valleys, lowest demand

Keep 1 to 2 spare days in Kathmandu
