Overview

Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of the most beautiful and well-known treks in Nepal. It was only opened to foreigners in 1991 and since then, has become increasingly popular. The trek takes you around the world's eighth highest mountain, Manaslu (8,163m), through stunning scenery and a variety of cultures.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is a great option for those who want to avoid the crowds of Everest and Annapurna, but still want to experience all that Nepal has to offer. The trek is challenging, but the rewards are more than worth it.

The scenery is stunning, with snow-capped mountains, green valleys, and rivers. The people are friendly and welcoming, and there are plenty of opportunities to explore off the beaten path.

The Climbing Manaslu Circuit Trek is not as cheap as you would believe. There are numerous costs to consider, and they must all be paid up front. You're responsible for everything from entry permits to sanctuary and lodging, followed by trek guides.

The cost of the Manaslu Circuit Trek can vary depending on a number of factors, such as the time of year you go, the length of the trek, and whether you go with a guide or not. Generally speaking, the cost of the Manaslu Circuit Trek will be between $1,500 USD to $2,500 USD. This includes the cost of your guide, permits, and accommodation.

If you are planning on doing the trek in the off-season (November to April), then you can expect to pay a little less. Similarly, if you are looking to do a shorter trek (5-7 days), then you will also pay a little less.

Of course, the cost of the Manaslu Circuit Trek is just one part of the overall cost of your trip to Nepal. You will also need to factor in the cost of flights, travel insurance, and any other incidentals. Not only that, Manaslu trek cost also determined in this following things.

How Much Does It cost to Trek to Manaslu Circuit?

Manaslu circuit trek cost depends on the time you do the trekking and the way you are doing it. If you trek during high season, you shall be charged quite high, and you shall have to arrange your gears as per the weather. The way you trek, the agency you choose, the gears you carry, the duration of the trek, etc. have a lot to do with the cost of the circuit trek. In addition to these, your personal attitude towards expenditure during the trek also makes a difference in the total cost figure. Since the cost an agency charge you for the trek differs because of so many reasons, the best way to know about the price is to make individual inquiries with the different agencies.

March to May and September to November are considered the high seasons, with October in particular. This is the perfect time for trekking and for the locals to earn money, after waiting for a long time. Thus, the cost you might be charged during this time obviously is higher in comparison to the off season trekking. However, you might want to consider the level of difficulty trekking in other months. Some of the teahouses in the highlands are closed December to February. Trekking in the winter isn’t impossible, however, you shall have to make through lots of miseries. You have to make through icy sections at some places, and movability is highly impacted by the weather. Also keep in mind that trekking during the winter season means buying gears of winters that might increase your overall cost of the gear, which, if not controlled properly, might be higher than trekking in another season.

Trekking via an international trekking agency increases your cost, as this increases the number of middlemen sharing your payment. Thus, to bring your Manaslu circuit trek in control, trekking via a local trekking agency is a must. Since some of the regions in the Manaslu region are declared restricted by the government, you cannot do this trek alone. You must be trekking in a group of at least two members, and must be accompanied by a porter guide or professional guide. Similarly, the longer the duration of the trek, the higher the cost. But ensure that your trek isn’t ruined in your attempt to conservative control of the cost.

Factors Affecting Manaslu Circuit Trek Cost

Cost of Transportation

One of the most important things to consider when budgeting for your Manaslu Circuit Trek is the cost of transportation. The main mode of transportation in Nepal is by bus, and the cost of a bus ticket from Kathmandu to Soti Khola (the starting point of the trek) is approximately $30.
You will also need to factor in the cost of a return bus ticket from Besisahar (the end point of the trek) to Kathmandu, which is approximately $25. If you are planning on taking a jeep or private vehicle from Kathmandu to Soti Khola, the cost will be significantly higher, the price charged is between US$150 to US$200.
Taking a helicopter flight may be ideal and simple, but it is rather expensive. Hiring a chopper costs around $350 per person, but if you travel in a group, the price can drop dramatically.

Cost of Trekking Permits

First and foremost, you need to get a Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP) permit and a Restricted Area Permit (RAP). The cost of these permits depends on the number of days that you plan to trek in the region.
You will require the permits from the Nepal Government, which are as follows:

  • Manaslu Restricted Permit
  • Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP)
  • Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)
  • Tsum Valley Restricted Permit (if you wish to go to the Tsum valley)

The cost of the permit is based on the month and number of days you'll be staying in this region.

  • You will need to pay 70 USD per week plus an additional 10 USD for every day after the first week in September through November.
  • You will need to pay 50 USD each week, and an additional 7 USD for every day past the first week for the months of rest.

Similarly, If you choose TSUM Valley as a side trip for your trek, USD 35 per week per person is charged.
The final fee you must pay to go on a trek is for the Annapurna Conservation Area Project. Foreign visitors have to pay around US$30 while South Asian nationals only have to pay $2.

Cost of Travel Insurance

Hikers are not permitted to go on the trail unless they have travel insurance, especially if they are going higher.

Trekking insurance for a journey that is more than 6,000 meters high costs between $150 and $250 for a 30-day period. The cost of the insurance depends on your age, nationality, and how long you will be on the trek.

Many factors can cause trouble for trekkers in this region, including the high altitude and sub-zero temperatures. Anything might occur during the journey, owing to the high altitude and harsh winter conditions. You may be taken by helicopter to a hospital if you require medical care.

Therefore, with the premium travel insurance, you can clearout the charges of the helicopter rescue.

Cost of Foods and Accommodations

When traveling to high elevations, teahouses are a popular lodging choice. They can be as cheap as US$6 and offer only basic amenities, such as a bedsheet, pillow, and blanket. However, since they are often in remote areas with limited access, they do not offer many services.

Well, during the peak season, you might also need to share the room with your fellow trekkers costing different costs.

Higher-elevation restaurants serve more expensive meals. The price for a meal usually ranges from US$15 to US $20. The meal often includes traditional Nepali food pulses, rice, and produce from the region.

Teahouses today offer a wide range of meals, including flatbread, Tibetan noodle soup, pancakes, and hash browns. This may appear to increase your Manaslu Circuit Trek costs slightly, but at least you'll be pleased.

Cost of Drinks at Manaslu Circuit Trek

In the mountainous area, tea and coffee are both expensive. However, they are less expensive than at Everest Base Camp.
Tea – USD 2.5 to USD 4
Coffee – USD 3 to USD 5
Drinking Water – USD 2 to USD 5
Beer – USD 5 to USD 8

Costs of Guides and Porters

During your trek to Manaslu Circuit, Guides and Porters are your most dependable and closest companion.

According to the regulation, one authorized representative from Nepal Trekking Association is required for the trip.

Generally, Porters charge around USD 20-25 per day. This includes the guide's food, lodging, and insurance. A porter can carry around 20 kg of luggage without any problems.

Similarly, the cost for the professional guide is not less than US $25 per day and can rise upto US $50 as well.

Cost of Nepali Visa

Unless you are a citizen of one of the nations that does not need a visa, you must have one when visiting Nepal. A visa can be obtained upon arrival at the international airport in Kathmandu and from other Nepalese consulates outside the country.

The fee for a Nepal visa is as follows:

  • $30 – 15-days multiple entry visa
  • $50 – 30-days multiple entry visa
  • $125 – 90-days multiple entry visa

Cost of Trekking Gears

If you're going on a trek in the Himalayas, be sure to bring the correct gear and things with you. This will help make your journey safer and more enjoyable.
Here are some lists of Trekking gears with the price:

Tips to Minimize Manaslu Circuit Trek Cost

  • Because the cost of the same item will double as you climb higher, stock up on essentials in Kathmandu.
  • Because the water is not drinkable, carry water purification tablets or drops, or a water filter so that you may continue drinking clean natural water and save money.
  • You may choose between a local cuisine like as rice, lentil and vegetable curry rather than Western foods. Local food is both inexpensive and convenient to prepare.
  • Bring a spare battery or solar battery charger in case your camera runs out of power. Some tea houses will charge you for the opportunity to recharge your electronic gadgets and equipment. The cost for this service can range from USD 2 to USD 3 per hour.
